Insights and Lessons Learned from the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye (Turkey)
Presenter: Dr. Carlos Estuardo Ventura, P.E., P.Eng.
A dedicated international team of engineers, spearheaded by experts from UBC, embarked on an essential earthquake reconnaissance mission following the tragic events of February 6th that left the eastern region of Turkey in ruins.
In this presentation, I am eager to offer valuable insights and the wisdom gained from our on-site visits to numerous cities affected by these catastrophic events. I will highlight the critical discoveries we made during our interactions with building authorities, fellow engineers, and the resilient local communities.
Furthermore, I will delve into the significance of these insights, shedding light on how they can significantly enhance our earthquake preparedness initiatives within our own community.
Dr Carlos Ventura is a Professor and Director EERF – Department of Civil Engineering – UBC
