DESCRIPTION:We are a group of health professionals working at the intersection of climate and health\n \nSUMMARY:\nCAPE is a national body – Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment\, involved in promoting health and the environment\, by engaging with governments\, running campaigns\, conducting research\, and drawing media attention to key issues in this area. \nPlanetary Health Clinics\nAn initiative started under the CAPE umbrella\, the PHCs are run by health care professionals working at the intersection of climate change and health. \nWe would like to engage with you in a discussion of how we can prevent some of the dire consequences of climate change and also how we can better adapt to coming changes. What are your ideas how we can move forward together towards a healthier future? \nOur presentation will be brief\, touching on what we can do to protect our health during climate disasters\, mitigation strategies to prevent more events\, and the mental health impacts of climate change along with some strategies to face our quickly changing world. \nBIOS:\nLinda Thyer is a mother of 3 and practises family and sport medicine on traditional Coast Salish territories with a focus on youth over the past 20 years. She is a founding member of Doctors for Planetary Health – West Coast and is an active member of arious medical\, environmental and peace community organizations. She has a lifelong appreciation of the many nourishing and healing gifts of Mother Earth and works towards restoring health and peace for all. \nKai Irani is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private practice. He has been a member of CAPE since late 2021\, involved in their various climate action events\, interacting with the public to raise awareness on the impacts of climate change on health. He has a special interest in the mental health impacts of climate change. Kai’s passion and concern for the environment dates back to his childhood\, where conservation\, avoiding waste and excessive consumption\, along with re-use\, were promoted.

Please register using the form below. \nSUMMARY:\nThe presentation will cover an overview of VEMA’s role and highlights of their work toward public preparedness and community resilience.\n\nBIO:\nMiranda has been with the City of Vancouver since 2020. Miranda’s role at the City includes public education\, risk communication\, emergency support services and planning for community impacts for hazards. Prior to joining the City\, Miranda worked in various roles with emergency management including with Simon Fraser University and Emergency Management BC with a focus on regional emergency management in the Metro Vancouver Region. In this role Miranda was part of the response to several provincial emergencies including the 2017 wildfires\, 2018 flooding and wildfires\, 2019 natural gas shortage. Miranda continues to be involved with the ShakeOutBC Organizing Committee and BC Earthquake Alliance.
